Recycling Plastic

Home for almost a million people, two square km in extention, one of the Asia’a biggest slum. It’s Dhavari, the unusual slum with approximately annual turnover of 650 million US$, where six-seven thousand people, coming mainly from Uttar Pradesh, move a huge business in a 600 Tons per day in plastic recycling. The plastic is coming from all over India and here, minly men between 18 and 60 years of age, work up to twelve hours and 120 Rupees per day (around 2 Euros) to devide by quality and colors, wash, dry, melt and put again the plastic in the market. Groups of five to eight people live together and work for miny-factory where the owner is able to earn a net of 20000 thousand Rupees (around 350 Euro) and the supervisor around 200 Rupees per day. Ahuge business that make Dhavari a unique slum in the world.
